Collecting Trash Scraps
Read more about the 2021 daily art journal and each month’s theme here.
January’s journal theme was meant to encourage me to pay attention to small things, actively look at my surroundings, and find beauty in “purposeless” cast-offs. Plus, I just really like trash. In college, I did whole photo projects on trash. Now I collect small bits that catch my eye (see the 2019 trash journal) and occasionally use them for collages. How we define usefulness (and how we treat the things that no longer qualify) can be pretty darn fascinating.
Also, it’s surprising how helpful trash scraps are at reminding me of where I was or what I was doing on a certain day.
